Interior Lighting Trends for 2020

lighting trend in sydney

Interior lighting is integral to the design of your home. The right lighting allows you to manipulate the atmosphere of your home depending on the positioning and design of the lights. It is also important that the lighting fixtures you use change from room to room depending on the use of that room; for example, the lighting in your kitchen or bathroom is going to be very different to the lighting in your loungeroom or bedroom. As with interior design styles, lighting design changes. There may not be big changes from year to year, but as technology changes and advances, homeowners incorporate these changes into their home.

As Sydney lighting specialists working in homes across Coogee, Waverly, Bondi and more, we see a lot of great lighting and have installed some amazing interior lighting pieces for homeowners that really bring their home to life.

If you’re thinking of upgrading your interior lighting, we’ve done the research into what the popular trends are in 2020.

Soft Colours

Soft colours are really popular at the moment, particularly those colours in the grey, greige (grey plus beige) and gold tones. Because these colours work well with almost any design style, we are seeing them being used on a range of interior lighting fixtures.

Retro and Industrial

The industrial trend has been around for awhile now, but the retro look is starting to make a comeback. Sydney lighting specialists are particularly seeing an increase in a modern industrial trend, or a more modern retro look. These lighting fixtures tend to come with richer tones and alternative designs created more to look like artwork than lighting. We’ve certainly seen some interesting pieces in homes around Rosebery and Kingsford.

Edison-Style Bulbs

An interior lighting trend we are loving is the Edison-style bulbs starting to be used in Sydney homes, particularly in older homes. These lights are perfect in the living area and kitchen, and they even come in an LED version which saves you money on electricity as well as lasting longer than a more traditional bulb. This interior lighting trends looks great with a more industrial style design, as they add warmth to the more metallic features.

LED Lighting

As a Sydney lighting expert covering the Eastern Suburbs, we are noticing a lot of homeowners are moving to LED lighting options. Incandescent bulbs use a lot of power and need to be changed regularly costing you more, while LED lighting is more efficient, environmentally friendly and, because they last longer, you won’t be replacing them so often. There is a huge range of styles available, and you can even get them in a variety of colours, brightness levels, shapes and more. LED lighting is perfect when you are looking for a unique design.

While the initial purchase cost on LED lighting can be high, Safe n Sound Electrical has been helping homeowners in suburbs like Coogee, Randwick, Bondi, and Rosebery make the change from their old lighting options to LED.

If you’re in the market for new interior lighting, choose Sydney lighting specialists to install and wire your new interior lighting fixtures.

Darren Dewerson - licensed electrician in Sydney

I started in the industry installing security alarms and CCTV camera systems 25 years ago in London. I worked on thousands of sites servicing alarm electrical systems for large building companies, schools & other locations.

When I arrived in Australia I wasn’t allowed to apply for a security licence as I was not a citizen at the time so I decided get my TAFE qualifications and retrain as an electrician which complimented my electrical assistant work in London. I have been working as an electrician in Sydney since 2005.

For just over 40 years I have been involved in all types of electrical installations, upgrades, emergency repairs and set ups.
